Air Barrier Association of America (ABAA)

The Center of Excellence for the Air Barrier Industry

Lori Flood, Training & Certification Manager

How long have you been working with ABAA?

I've been supporting ABAA in one way or another for more than 4 years now. I started working on the administrative side with certification, and now manage the training areas.

What's your role in helping the Association?

I assist and support the development, scheduling and organization of training courses and materials. The past two years have also given me the opportunity to coordinate the ABAA annual conferences.

What city do you currently live in & where's the farthest place you've travelled to?

I currently live in Winnipeg, MB (in the Great White North), and the furthest I've travelled is to Australia, with a children's choir. I got to hold a koala bear and feed a kangaroo, and had the opportunity to sing on a world stage at the Expo venue and in the Sidney Opera House, it was a pretty awesome experience!

What was your favorite TV Show and Band while you were growing up?

My favorite TV Show was either The Love Boat or Family Ties. My favorite band was (and still is), The Police.

What is one of the least intelligent things you have done and then wondered "What was I thinking?!"

I don't really think that way of any of the crazy things I've done, (and there have been a few...), I just love to have an adventure. On one of these adventures I packed up all my belongings and moved to the West coast with some friends. I had less than $1000 dollars to support myself, and no job or place to live. It was a crazy experience, driving all the way across the Mid-West and through the Rocky Mountains with a trailer in tow, but maybe not the most well thought out plan... after living in a motel for 2 weeks and blowing all my money, I packed up and came home again! That is the trip where I really got to know my future, (now current), husband, so I guess it turned out alright!

What are you most excited about with regards to ABAA's future?

ABAA has great potential as a leader in the energy efficiency industry, and an authority on all things air barrier related. I am excited to contribute to the growth and development, and watch the board take the association to new heights! For my role, I am eager to develop better and more expansive training and learning opportunities, making our curriculum more accessible and more learner-friendly as we move forward.
