Air Barrier Association of America (ABAA)

The Center of Excellence for the Air Barrier Industry

Uri Portillo - Quality Assurance Administration

How long have you been working with ABAA?

I have been working with ABAA for about a year and a half.

What's your role in helping the Association?

I currently am tasked with coordinating auditor licensing, ABAA project audit assignment, follow up and distribution of audit reports and a series of other items. I also assist in processing new & existing memberships, contractor accreditation, installer certification & registration. Most recently, I have been honored with participating on the QAP Committee tasked with reviewing and updating the existing QAP.

Where is the farthest place you've traveled to?

The farthest destination I've travelled to date is Tulum, Mexico.

What was your favorite TV Show and Band while you were growing up?

This is a very tough question because I don't have favorites. Anyone that truly knows me knows that this question is very much not me - not even close.

What is one of the least intelligent things you have done and then wondered "What was I thinking?!"

Baking...I was horrible. I've learned that baking is truly a science. If you don't follow measurements and directions to a tee, things can go horribly wrong very quickly. Took me a handful of times to finally get it - I'm stubborn that way. Needless to say - I have been known to bake perfect pucks, pieces of coal and other inedible goods. Not your mom's/grandmother's baking!

What are you most excited about with regards to ABAA's future?

Exactly that - the future. In the grand scheme of things - air barriers are still relatively young and no way of knowing where it is going. There are some very intelligent and passionate people involved with ABAA and that can only lead to great things.
The unknown - that's exciting!
